Black History Month
In February, we celebrate Black History Month by supporting nonprofits that are dedicated to advocating for Black communities. Established by African American historian Carter G. Woodson in 1915, Black History Month evolved to celebrate the lasting contributions of Black individuals throughout history, serving as an annual reminder of their profound impact on society. Below, you'll find Deed’s nonprofit recommendations, as well as Actions and volunteer opportunities, providing the Deed community with opportunities to support impactful organizations in celebration of Black History Month. We recommend using this resource to set up employee engagement campaigns in February.

Thurgood Marshall College Fund (TMCF)

Black Connect
Black Connect works to eliminate the racial wealth gap in America by increasing the number and success rate of Black-owned businesses and advancing pathways to build Black wealth. Volunteers act as mentors for business & entrepreneurship mentees as they provide advice as they create business plans and road maps to achieve their goals. Black Connect also partners with companies to host corporate volunteer events which can include leading sessions for mentees about the partnering company and their strategic initiatives.
Project Diva International
Project Diva International guides young girls on the path to self-discovery by empowering black women in the US to discover their full potential through mentorship and development programs that facilitate career exploration, financial literacy, and self-determination. Volunteers act as mentors to young girls and women in areas such as financial literacy, self-care, wellness and careers development. Volunteers are partnered with mentees through on-going sessions and outings.
